Glengarry Shoot

Have already started this project and hope it will continue for at least 6 months.

The plan, to document a very cool place; Glengarry County, Ontario. Its rural, its small town, amazing landscapes and farms, fascinating people. I’ve been spending a lot of time there over the past year and following the Magnum workshop this project just seemed to materialize.

Second part of the plan is a much more simplified approach; single, fixed focal length lens, minimal post processing and a 1×1 crop.

Third part of the plan, a gallery show, hopefully somewhere local, (The Abbey for the Arts would be real nice).

Images for now will be posted to the Blog section of the dotcom. As usual, your comments are welcome and cherished.

Cheers,

Admin B.

Magnum @ Contact

Wrapping up an amazing week at the Magnum workshop in Toronto as part of CONTACT.

It has been 5 days of marathon sessions; shooting, editing and critiquing. Putting the final touches on my show which will be included with that of the other students. Preview tomorrow at the Drake hotel, followed by public show at Camera Bar.

Not sure the results will show immediately as my brain is doing the massive expansion/contraction thing, but the learning this week was massive. It has given me direction, and a whole new level of understanding images and the craft of photography. Just to be in the midsts of these unreal photographers, to hear their stories, see the images and share a drink has been monumental.

Special thanks to the amazing and generous Mark Power for all his insight and teaching this week.   nyc54094.jpg

Cheers Mark!

Images to follow on the blog, of course.

No Sleep

March 3rd, 2009 by admin

Havent really slept in over a week. 12 beds in 16 days.

However, back safe from an incredible trip, one of the best.

Not a photo trip per se, but I am hoping there are some worthy images to be found on the memory cards.

Thailand is unreal. The people, beautiful, kind and gentle. The food, out of this world. The beaches, paradise. The cities, dynamic, exciting, spiritual.

Side trip to Cambodia was well worth the extra travel.

Angkor Wat is a must see, but surprisingly our least favorite site in the area of Siem Reap. So happy to have started at the Angkor temple and to have done the Bayon temple and the Jungle Temple (site of the movie Tomb Raider) at the end.

Thanks to Tang & Amon in BKK,  our awesome cambodian guide Mr. Jack, and to Trung and all the wonderful people at the La Laanta Resort in Ko Lanta.

Hope to get to posting by the weekend. Excited to revisit the memories and beauty of these two places.

Leaving on a jet plane.

Destination: Thailand and Cambodia (Angkor Wat to be specific).

Excited for a much needed vacation, a visit with an old friend, and some creative stimulation.

Blog is on hold for two weeks, but I hope to be back with some new and fantastic images.

Be well, until next time.

Official Re-Launch

welcomeback_small_0.jpg

Well…. after a year of planning, many many months of hard work (mostly by Tracy), dozens of back-and-forth emails, terrific input and critique from friends, the new dotcom is officially relaunched.

I intend on updating the blog on a much more constant basis and as before it will serve as a place of experimentation, new ideas and hopefully lots of learning. As always, your comments are most welcome and valued.

As for the new sections on the dotcom, which I am really excited about, they are pretty self explanatory.

Thanks again to Tracy of Number5design for her amazing design and programming work, to Mark Kitaoka for his humbling bio essay in the About section, to Dan Seguin for his killer portrait and to all my friends for their support and help along the way. brant.
